Chandler Elementary School

This school will be transformed as part of the 2018 POW! WOW! happening from August 31st to September 9th!

Two murals are coming to Chandler Elementary as part of POW! WOW! Worcester 2018 with artists Daniel Danger and Max Sansing tackling the massive brick walls of the structure. As the city went on a school building binge around the suburban perimeter of the city in the 1950s and 1960s, downtown schools fell into disrepair. In the late 1970s, the city finally turned its attention the aging schools in the Chandler-Pleasant street area close to Main Street. Opened in 1977, the new Chandler Elementary replaced three smaller, worn schools on Chandler, Oxford, and Winslow Streets. The old 1844 school at 114 Chandler St., which cost $29,300 to build, fell before the wrecking ball in 1976 before being replaced on the same site with the new $1.5 million elementary school.
